SECRETARY’S REPORT June
13, 2007Our luncheon was held at H-S Park. Lou announced when lunch was ready. Ellsie Lundvall said grace. Our guest and entertainment, was Loren Pfei. Loren is President of the HSA, grew up in Milwaukee and like all good Milwaukeans, plays the accordian. He played prior to eating and again after, mostly his favorites , but took some requests. Elsie asked everyone to sign their name so we had it for our record. Harriet gave a report on all of her winnings since she presented her program to us. Lou had a green hat for tips for us to use in the future; he also asked if we wanted to have another picnic in the park. The answer was unanamous for the park. he announced the Flag Day Program at Cherry Vale Mall on Flag Day. Respectfully submitted Joy Cutsforth, Secretary. |

![]() I'm Tom Baehler. I live at 5875 Capetown Ave. which is near Charles and Mulford in Rockford, 61108. My wife Helen and I have 3 married girls and eight grandchildren, seven of which are also girls!!! I was an mechanical engineer in Electric Power Engineering. I was a relative short timer as I started in 1985 and retired in 1999 because of a good full lump offer and the correct suspicion that I could come back on contract. I did return for another 5 years on several occasions.I keep busy all the time now. As they say, I wouldn't have time to work anymore. I like cars and have a 1926 Model T Ford touring and drive and maintain it regularly as part of the local Model T club. We have lots of fun and a very active schedule. Always looking for new members also so get one and join us !! ( actually any make of old car is welcome ). I also have a nice garden and yard that I keep in shape plus the house and three other cars and a boat. Always something to fix!! We see two of the daughters and families in Hinsdale, Il. often and the other in Palos Verdes Est., Ca. at least once a year. We also go South and use our time share about a month every year in Feb and March. We have an 8 year old girl that lives with us called Annie. She is a darling Poodle. And we have wonderful friends that keep Annie any time we go away. We are really fortunate to know them. I sure was lucky to come to Sundstrand, after 18 years at Twin Disc, and work with such great people. I try to make the Tuesday breakfast get togethers
the
guys have at the Stockholm Inn and will try to join some of the newer
group meetings also. |

Stephen (Steve) Baits
3282 Ramblewood Lane
I worked in the Harrison Ave. plant retiring
officially in 1988 after 38+ years and then continued another 18 months
part time with the legal department coordinating with
engineering. My main job was with engineering in various
capacities but I wore other hats as well.
Dorothy, my wife of 55 years, and I have 4 children and 7
grandchildren. Two of our kids are engineers, one a chemist
and the fourth a CPA, all living near by so that we can easily get
together often and participate in the grandchildren's many
activities. I keep busy with golf, pool and swimming and we
travel extensively both here and abroad. We manage to take
care of our house ourselves although high ladder work is now forbidden
by Dorothy. We are fortunate to enjoy good health although
the years playing hand ball, squash, and racquet ball have taken their
toll on knees. I
was fortunate to enjoy my years at Sundstrand. It was a
pleasure to go to work. |
John A. Bates, current residence Rockford, IL . ![]() Email cyberbyker@aol.com Currently single. I have one son, he and his wife and their two children boys 5 and 7 live in Indiana, on a small farm where my son’s mother was born. They are raising grass-fed beef cattle and recently acquired a Murray Grey bull to improve the herd. In 1953 I made my first trip to Rockford from McHenry IL to enlist in the US Army. I served three years, including a year each in Salzburg, Austria and Verona, Italy. In 1957 I started at DeVry Tech on the GI Bill and earned an Associate Degree in Electronics. Was interviewed by Steve Pulaski, hired, and started at Sundstrand in January 1959, reporting to Lars Hallberg in the Load Controller & Electrical Section in the four-story on 11th St. In 1963 I was transferred to Manufacturing, as General Foreman of Electrical Assembly, reporting to Maynard Crowell. Had no previous management experience, but that is the way we did it then! Sink or Swim! Held responsibility for Paint & Wire and Overhaul Machining at various times. Involved in the Pesco and Vapair acquisitions, Space Shuttle, and brought generator assembly on line. Hired innumerable fascinating personnel for shop and office! In the mid-eighties I was transferred to Manucturing Engineering , was introduced to Cad, and developed JIS’s for CSD & IDG assembly. Took early retirement in January, 1993, returned to work under contract on and off for the next 10 years , finally quit altogether in 2003. In the meantime, I made many trips to the West Coast on my Harley, usually camping. Made many off-road trips to the Southwest Canyonlands in my 4 wheel drive truck, camping out in the back country of Utah. If you have read the Edward Abbey books, that is where I have been. Also made a memorable trip to the northern tip of New Foundland, the original Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows. Have had ups and downs with health in last year, keeping me off my Harley, but am currently in relatively good shape. Hope to travel to the Southwest again this Fall. In summation, I have had a very good life, both at Sundstrand, during my travels, and with my family. I am looking forward to more, the continual search for romance and adventure! |
Chuck
Anderson married to Marcia( Marcia Furland who
worked at Sundstrand in the late 60's and early 70's) for 38
years. We have two grown daughters who are married and
have two granddaughters, ages 3 and 2 months. They
are in Indiana so we don't get to see them as much as we would like. I worked in Electrical Systems as a project
engineer for 10 years and the remainder of my career in Customer
Service. I retired in July 2002 after 35+ years. I serve on the board
of the Burpee Museum and a small local business, enjoy woodworking
especially carving and turning. I harvest my own wood and season and
turn decorative bowls. We have a second home in Hazlehurst
Wisconsin ( 250 miles North) and try to spend as much time a possible
there both winter and summer. We've lived in Roscoe
for the past 28 years and enjoy our home and 5 acres of woods.
I enjoy see my old friends from Sundstrand at the local
grocery store and lunches periodically.
