1. You and your teeth don't sleep together.

2. You try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you aren't wearing any.

3. At the breakfast table you hear snap, crackle, pop and you're not eating cereal.

It will be a pot-luck - bring your own table cloth (if

you bring. No reservations are required.

<The June meeting at Sundstrand Park will feature a
first for the newly formed Sundstrand Retiree
organization.  Loren Pfeil of H-S Assoc. will
entertain us on his accordian.  So plan on coming

SECRETARY’S REPORT

May 9 meeting at the Command Post Restaurant.
Lou Suit spoke to us and asked for suggestions on how
we could get more people to come to our luncheons..

Guest speaker was Carol Lewis. She is with Life Line
Screening and she passed out an information ppacket
with an application for the four screenings that she
is currently advising.

Harriet Brown said that you should take 1 Tsp. of
olive oil and some lemon and put in your orange juice.
Another member said to eat oatmeal every day. Several
people told about who had suffered strokes.

Carol pointed out that strokes were one of the leading
causes of death and this is what the screenings are
about.  Apply for the screenings - good advice.

Lou mentioned some requests for using Sundstrand Park
for a pot luck and asked for a show of hands for June,
July, August or September. June got the largest count.
Lou will look into the availability of a reservation
for June with Cheryl Pfeil at the HSA office.

Respectfully submitted
Joy Cutsforth, Secretary.

Hello again (one last time) HS retirees-

I have good news for those who are interested in staying connected with Sundstrand/Hamilton Sundstrand. The HS Rockford Site Council has agreed to supplement the cost of your membership for the HS Rockford Leadership Club (RLC). As they do for current employees, the Site Council will subsidize 2/3 of the $180 annual membership, which means that annual membership will only cost you $60.

The RLC was founded in 2006, and has 200 current-employee members. To be eligible, current employees must be at professional/managerial level (termed L6-L2). The attached flyer details how the Club is set up as well as a recap of events held last year.

A key RLC accomplishment was the revival of a HS presence in the Rockford AirFest. More than 80 employees turned out as volunteers at last year's show, helping with various facets of the air show, including HS's chalet and display booth, ticket sellers, guides even the pyrotechnics team! We're proud to say that Hamilton Sundstrand had more volunteers at the show than any other company, including prime sponsors.

The RLC will be out again, in full force, at this year's Rockford AirFest (June 1-3). Paid members are eligible to view the show from the RLC flight-line chalet (food/drink included). Chalet passes can be requested through Rod Bjerke (rod.bjerkeii@hs.utc.com). See attached e-mail for additional AirFest details.

To join the RLC please contact Pat Sowell at petrinellam.sowell@hs.utc.com, or by phone at 966-8455. Pat's work mail address is 4747 Harrison Ave, 61125, mail stop 397-1.

If you have questions, or would like additional information, please feel free to contact any RLC Board member.

Subject:        Hamilton Sundstrand Leadership Club: Mayor Morrissey guest speaker

Hello HS retirees-

Last year 225 Hamilton Sundstrand employees in Rockford started a local club called the Rockford Leadership Club. The RLC strives to promote leadership while improving the community perception of Hamilton Sundstrand. Member-organized activities focus on community service, networking, and education. A few of our first-year activities included participation in the Rockford AirFest, tutoring and facility improvements at AC Thompson school, touring EIGERlab, book reviews/discussions, and member socials with guest appearances by Bob O'Brien (Rockford Airport Director) and Mike Sinnett (Boeing executive).

We would like to involve HS retirees in future events, starting with our membership drive at Giovanni’s on May 1st from 7-8 a.m. This is a free event. Mayor Larry Morrissey will be the guest speaker, and there will be door prizes for those in attendance. Further details are in the attachment. If you plan to attend please RSVP by replying to this e-mail.

To become a RLC member and participate in future events you would need to pay the annual dues of $180. Hamilton Sundstrand subsidizes 2/3 of this for employees, but at this time there is no resolution whether a subsidy will be extended to cover retirees. Further information will be provided once a decision is reached.

If you’d like to learn more we’d love to see you at the breakfast on May 1st. If you have any questions, please contact any of the following RLC board members.

Eat Well to Stay Energized
Do you feel exhausted so that you just can’t face the
gym? Are you committed to physical activity, yet you
would rather sit on the couch than do sit-ups with the
only time you have for a work-out. Your diet, rather
than simple sloth - may be the problem.
Date: Wednesday June 6th at Plant 6 from

Health/Wellness Tips:

Workout Wisdom
Longevity experts praise the health benefits of
getting at least 30 minutes of moderate physical
activity every day – an hour is even better. But talk
to your health care provider first if

you’re a beginner or if you have a chronic health
condition.

Exercise Myth/Facts

Myth: Exercise requires long workouts to be effective.

Fact: Short fitness sessions (such as three 10-minute
walks) offer
health benefits similar to those of a half hour
workout. The key is to
accumulate at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.

Myth: Exercise – no pain, no gain.
Fact: Temporary, mild muscle soreness after trying a
new activity
is normal, but any pain signals a warning. Remember to
warm up
before exercising, cool down afterward and gently
stretch to relieve
soreness. Talk to your provider if you feel persistent
pain.

Myth: Exercise boosts your metabolism so you can eat
whatever
want.
Fact: Working out, particularly at a moderate aerobic
pace,
accelerates your metabolic (calorie burning) rate.
But, regardless of
activity, if you eat more calories than you use, you
will gain weight.
couple exercise with sensible eating to shed pounds.

Optimal Fitness

“It involves stretching daily, strength training two
to three times a week, and aerobic activities (brisk
walking, biking, swimming) most days of the week.”

Have a good weekend!
Larry:)
